Wine is made in the vineyard and Akarua’s belief is that our land plays an integral part in producing the premium Central Otago wines that we bring to market each year. Likewise Artisan views the ingredients as the key to delivering food that is their signature.
A passion for hand crafted cuisine that’s made from scratch is a philosophy that makes the Artisan kitchen tick, using some of New Zealand’s finest sustainable ingredients sourced in and around the four coasts of our South Island.
The food coming from our kitchen is honest, comforting and social with a focus on quality, taste and seasonality helped from Central Otago’s local growers. Our food matched carefully with the purity of Akarua wines combine to create a memorable dining experience.

Beautiful Experience and Food
Wow, wow, wow ! Just gorgeous food and wines. Accidentally found this place and was so delighted with our lunch that we went back for breakfast as our last meal in NZ.
Staff are professional, warm, friendly and second only to the food. Whilst the decor, gardens and art are gorgeous the food is the real show stopper – fresh, creative and highly recommended.
A Great Place to Celebrate
I was a little reluctant to go celebrate but my arrival at Akarua quickly changed all that. A friendly greeting by the Hostess, a table in the winter sunshine & a steady supply of fine wine & food for my guests & I to enjoy. What could be better? We enjoyed the lamb platter & the salmon platter complemented by an assortment of vegetable dishes. The food was excellent, the wine excellent & the service friendly & attentive. An excellent experience & a great way to celebrate.
We loved the whole experience
The setting is beautiful, the gardens are a particular feature with dining tables spaced to give a feeling of privacy. The food was outstanding and the staff very friendly. 10/10 I had a glass of pinot gris which was the best I’ve tasted on my south Island travels. This rates as one of our top 5 eating experiences on our NZ road trip 2019.
